Event Details

James Rosenquist: Visualising the Sixties presents, for the first time in the UK, an in-depth exhibition focusing on the crucial decade that launched the career of one of the most revered and influential American artists. Comprising of museum loans, works from the Estate and artist’s family and those from private collections, this large-scale show brings together intimate and monumental works alongside a number of Rosenquist’s early, “shaped canvases” and examples of his highly original use of found, kinetic and electrical objects in painting. The exhibition will not only illuminate why the early years of the artist’s career were so ground breaking for the artist, but will also demonstrate the innovative and experimental techniques Rosenquist employed throughout the decade, pushing the boundaries of his medium in an era that redefined the field of painting. A rarely seen group of source material collages will also be on view, offering an intimate glimpse into the complex ideas and thought processes behind Rosenquist’s paintings.
